Job 9

Then Job answered,

तब अय्यूब ने कहा,

“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?

“मैं निश्चय जानता हूँ कि बात ऐसी ही है; परन्तु मनुष्य परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में कैसे धर्मी ठहर सकता है?

If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.

चाहे वह उससे मुकद्दमा लड़ना भी चाहे तो भी मनुष्य हजार बातों में से एक का भी उत्तर न दे सकेगा।

God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?

परमेश्वर बुद्धिमान और अति सामर्थी है: उसके विरोध में हठ करके कौन कभी प्रबल हुआ है?

He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.

वह तो पर्वतों को अचानक हटा देता है और उन्हें पता भी नहीं लगता, वह क्रोध में आकर उन्हें उलट-पुलट कर देता है।

He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.

वह पृथ्वी को हिलाकर उसके स्थान से अलग करता है, और उसके खम्भे काँपने लगते हैं।

He commands the sun and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.

उसकी आज्ञा बिना सूर्य उदय होता ही नहीं; और वह तारों पर मुहर लगाता है;

He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.

वह आकाशमण्डल को अकेला ही फैलाता है, और समुद्र की ऊँची-ऊँची लहरों पर चलता है;

He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.

वह सप्तर्षि, मृगशिरा और कचपचिया और दक्षिण के नक्षत्रों का बनानेवाला है।

He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.

वह तो ऐसे बड़े कर्म करता है, जिनकी थाह नहीं लगती; और इतने आश्चर्यकर्म करता है, जो गिने नहीं जा सकते।

Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.

देखो, वह मेरे सामने से होकर तो चलता है परन्तु मुझ को नहीं दिखाई पड़ता; और आगे को बढ़ जाता है, परन्तु मुझे सूझ ही नहीं पड़ता है।

Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’

देखो, जब वह छीनने लगे, तब उसको कौन रोकेगा? कौन उससे कह सकता है कि तू यह क्या करता है?

“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.

“परमेश्वर अपना क्रोध ठंडा नहीं करता। रहब के सहायकों को उसके पाँव तले झुकना पड़ता है।

How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?

फिर मैं क्या हूँ, जो उसे उत्तर दूँ, और बातें छाँट छाँटकर उससे विवाद करूँ?

Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn’t answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.

चाहे मैं निर्दोष भी होता परन्तु उसको उत्तर न दे सकता; मैं अपने मुद्दई से गिड़गिड़ाकर विनती करता।

If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.

चाहे मेरे पुकारने से वह उत्तर भी देता, तो भी मैं इस बात पर विश्वास न करता, कि वह मेरी बात सुनता है।

For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.

वह आँधी चलाकर मुझे तोड़ डालता है, और बिना कारण मेरी चोट पर चोट लगाता है।

He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

वह मुझे साँस भी लेने नहीं देता है, और मुझे कड़वाहट से भरता है।

If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’

यदि सामर्थ्य की चर्चा हो, तो देखो, वह बलवान है और यदि न्याय की चर्चा हो, तो वह कहेगा मुझसे कौन मुकद्दमा लड़ेगा?

Though I am righteous, my own mouth will condemn me. Though I am blameless, it will prove me perverse.

चाहे मैं निर्दोष ही क्यों न हूँ, परन्तु अपने ही मुँह से दोषी ठहरूँगा; खरा होने पर भी वह मुझे कुटिल ठहराएगा।

I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.

मैं खरा तो हूँ, परन्तु अपना भेद नहीं जानता; अपने जीवन से मुझे घृणा आती है।

“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.

बात तो एक ही है, इससे मैं यह कहता हूँ कि परमेश्वर खरे और दुष्ट दोनों का नाश करता है।

If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.

जब लोग विपत्ति से अचानक मरने लगते हैं तब वह निर्दोष लोगों के जाँचे जाने पर हँसता है।

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?

देश दुष्टों के हाथ में दिया गया है। परमेश्वर उसके न्यायियों की आँखों को मूँद देता है; इसका करनेवाला वही न हो तो कौन है?

“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away. They see no good.

“मेरे दिन हरकारे से भी अधिक वेग से चले जाते हैं; वे भागे जाते हैं और उनको कल्याण कुछ भी दिखाई नहीं देता।

They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.

वे तेजी से सरकण्डों की नावों के समान चले जाते हैं, या अहेर पर झपटते हुए उकाब के समान।

If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’

यदि मैं कहूँ, ‘मैं विलाप करना भूल जाऊँगा, और उदासी छोड़कर अपना मन प्रफुल्लित कर लूँगा,’

I am afraid of all my sorrows. I know that you will not hold me innocent.

तब मैं अपने सब दुःखों से डरता हूँ। मैं तो जानता हूँ, कि तू मुझे निर्दोष न ठहराएगा।

I will be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?

मैं तो दोषी ठहरूँगा; फिर व्यर्थ क्यों परिश्रम करूँ?

If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,

चाहे मैं हिम के जल में स्नान करूँ, और अपने हाथ खार से निर्मल करूँ,

yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes will abhor me.

तो भी तू मुझे गड्ढे में डाल ही देगा, और मेरे वस्त्र भी मुझसे घिन करेंगे।

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.

क्योंकि परमेश्वर मेरे तुल्य मनुष्य नहीं है कि मैं उससे वाद-विवाद कर सकूँ, और हम दोनों एक दूसरे से मुकद्दमा लड़ सके।

There is no umpire between us, that might lay his hand on us both.

हम दोनों के बीच कोई बिचवई नहीं है, जो हम दोनों पर अपना हाथ रखे।

Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;

वह अपना सोंटा मुझ पर से दूर करे और उसकी भय देनेवाली बात मुझे न घबराए।

then I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.

तब मैं उससे निडर होकर कुछ कह सकूँगा, क्योंकि मैं अपनी दृष्टि में ऐसा नहीं हूँ।
