Job 29

Job again took up his parable, and said,

अय्यूब ने और भी अपनी गूढ़ बात उठाई और कहा,

“Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;

“भला होता, कि मेरी दशा बीते हुए महीनों की सी होती, जिन दिनों में परमेश्वर मेरी रक्षा करता था,

when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,

जब उसके दीपक का प्रकाश मेरे सिर पर रहता था, और उससे उजियाला पाकर मैं अंधेरे से होकर चलता था।

as I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was in my tent,

वे तो मेरी जवानी के दिन थे, जब परमेश्वर की मित्रता मेरे डेरे पर प्रगट होती थी।

when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me,

उस समय तक तो सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर मेरे संग रहता था, और मेरे बच्चे मेरे चारों ओर रहते थे।

when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,

तब मैं अपने पैरों को मलाई से धोता था और मेरे पास की चट्टानों से तेल की धाराएँ बहा करती थीं।

when I went out to the city gate, when I prepared my seat in the street.

जब-जब मैं नगर के फाटक की ओर चलकर खुले स्थान में अपने बैठने का स्थान तैयार करता था,

The young men saw me and hid themselves. The aged rose up and stood.

तब-तब जवान मुझे देखकर छिप जाते, और पुरनिये उठकर खड़े हो जाते थे।

The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

हाकिम लोग भी बोलने से रुक जाते, और हाथ से मुँह मूँदे रहते थे।

The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.

प्रधान लोग चुप रहते थे और उनकी जीभ तालू से सट जाती थी।

For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me, and when the eye saw me, it commended me,

क्योंकि जब कोई मेरा समाचार सुनता, तब वह मुझे धन्य कहता था, और जब कोई मुझे देखता, तब मेरे विषय साक्षी देता था;

because I delivered the poor who cried, and the fatherless also, who had no one to help him,

क्योंकि मैं दुहाई देनेवाले दीन जन को, और असहाय अनाथ को भी छुड़ाता था।

the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

जो नाश होने पर था मुझे आशीर्वाद देता था, और मेरे कारण विधवा आनन्द के मारे गाती थी।

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.

मैं धार्मिकता को पहने रहा, और वह मुझे ढांके रहा; मेरा न्याय का काम मेरे लिये बागे और सुन्दर पगड़ी का काम देता था।

I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.

मैं अंधों के लिये आँखें, और लँगड़ों के लिये पाँव ठहरता था।

I was a father to the needy. I researched the cause of him whom I didn’t know.

दरिद्र लोगों का मैं पिता ठहरता था, और जो मेरी पहचान का न था उसके मुकद्दमे का हाल मैं पूछताछ करके जान लेता था।

I broke the jaws of the unrighteous and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

मैं कुटिल मनुष्यों की डाढ़ें तोड़ डालता, और उनका शिकार उनके मुँह से छीनकर बचा लेता था।

Then I said, ‘I will die in my own house, I will count my days as the sand.

तब मैं सोचता था, ‘मेरे दिन रेतकणों के समान अनगिनत होंगे, और अपने ही बसेरे में मेरा प्राण छूटेगा।

My root is spread out to the waters. The dew lies all night on my branch.

मेरी जड़ जल की ओर फैली, और मेरी डाली पर ओस रात भर पड़ी रहेगी,

My glory is fresh in me. My bow is renewed in my hand.’

मेरी महिमा ज्यों की त्यों बनी रहेगी, और मेरा धनुष मेरे हाथ में सदा नया होता जाएगा।

“Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.

“लोग मेरी ही ओर कान लगाकर ठहरे रहते थे और मेरी सम्मति सुनकर चुप रहते थे।

After my words they didn’t speak again. My speech fell on them.

जब मैं बोल चुकता था, तब वे और कुछ न बोलते थे, मेरी बातें उन पर मेंह के सामान बरसा करती थीं।

They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.

जैसे लोग बरसात की, वैसे ही मेरी भी बाट देखते थे; और जैसे बरसात के अन्त की वर्षा के लिये वैसे ही वे मुँह पसारे रहते थे।

I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn’t reject the light of my face.

जब उनको कुछ आशा न रहती थी तब मैं हँसकर उनको प्रसन्न करता था; और कोई मेरे मुँह को बिगाड़ न सकता था।

I chose out their way, and sat as chief. I lived as a king in the army, as one who comforts the mourners.

मैं उनका मार्ग चुन लेता, और उनमें मुख्य ठहरकर बैठा करता था, और जैसा सेना में राजा या विलाप करनेवालों के बीच शान्तिदाता, वैसा ही मैं रहता था।
