Job 21

Then Job answered,

तब अय्यूब ने कहा,

“Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.

“चित्त लगाकर मेरी बात सुनो; और तुम्हारी शान्ति यही ठहरे।

Allow me, and I also will speak. After I have spoken, mock on.

मेरी कुछ तो सहो, कि मैं भी बातें करूँ; और जब मैं बातें कर चुकूँ, तब पीछे ठट्ठा करना।

As for me, is my complaint to man? Why shouldn’t I be impatient?

क्या मैं किसी मनुष्य की दुहाई देता हूँ? फिर मैं अधीर क्यों न होऊँ?

Look at me, and be astonished. Lay your hand on your mouth.

मेरी ओर चित्त लगाकर चकित हो, और अपनी-अपनी उँगली दाँत तले दबाओ।

When I remember, I am troubled. Horror takes hold of my flesh.

जब मैं कष्टों को स्मरण करता तब मैं घबरा जाता हूँ, और मेरी देह काँपने लगती है।

“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?

क्या कारण है कि दुष्ट लोग जीवित रहते हैं, वरन् बूढ़े भी हो जाते, और उनका धन बढ़ता जाता है?

Their child is established with them in their sight, their offspring before their eyes.

उनकी सन्तान उनके संग, और उनके बाल-बच्चे उनकी आँखों के सामने बने रहते हैं।

Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

उनके घर में भयरहित कुशल रहता है, और परमेश्वर की छड़ी उन पर नहीं पड़ती।

Their bulls breed without fail. Their cows calve, and don’t miscarry.

उनका साँड़ गाभिन करता और चूकता नहीं, उनकी गायें बियाती हैं और बच्चा कभी नहीं गिराती।

They send out their little ones like a flock. Their children dance.

वे अपने लड़कों को झुण्ड के झुण्ड बाहर जाने देते हैं, और उनके बच्चे नाचते हैं।

They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

वे डफ और वीणा बजाते हुए गाते, और बांसुरी के शब्द से आनन्दित होते हैं।

They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol.

वे अपने दिन सुख से बिताते, और पल भर ही में अधोलोक में उतर जाते हैं।

They tell God, ‘Depart from us, for we don’t want to know about your ways.

तो भी वे परमेश्वर से कहते थे, ‘हम से दूर हो! तेरी गति जानने की हमको इच्छा नहीं है।

What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?’

सर्वशक्तिमान क्या है, कि हम उसकी सेवा करें? और यदि हम उससे विनती भी करें तो हमें क्या लाभ होगा?’

Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked is far from me.

देखो, उनका कुशल उनके हाथ में नहीं रहता, दुष्ट लोगों का विचार मुझसे दूर रहे।

“How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out, that their calamity comes on them, that God distributes sorrows in his anger?

“कितनी बार ऐसे होता है कि दुष्टों का दीपक बुझ जाता है, या उन पर विपत्ति आ पड़ती है; और परमेश्वर क्रोध करके उनके हिस्से में शोक देता है,

How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?

वे वायु से उड़ाए हुए भूसे की, और बवण्डर से उड़ाई हुई भूसी के समान होते हैं।

You say, ‘God lays up his iniquity for his children.’ Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.

तुम कहते हो ‘परमेश्वर उसके अधर्म का दण्ड उसके बच्चों के लिये रख छोड़ता है,’ वह उसका बदला उसी को दे, ताकि वह जान ले।

Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

दुष्ट अपना नाश अपनी ही आँखों से देखे, और सर्वशक्तिमान की जलजलाहट में से आप पी ले।

For what does he care for his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?

क्योंकि जब उसके महीनों की गिनती कट चुकी, तो अपने बादवाले घराने से उसका क्या काम रहा।

“Shall any teach God knowledge, since he judges those who are high?

क्या परमेश्वर को कोई ज्ञान सिखाएगा? वह तो ऊँचे पद पर रहनेवालों का भी न्याय करता है।

One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.

कोई तो अपने पूरे बल में बड़े चैन और सुख से रहता हुआ मर जाता है।

His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened.

उसकी देह दूध से और उसकी हड्डियाँ गूदे से भरी रहती हैं।

Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good.

और कोई अपने जीव में कुढ़कुढ़कर बिना सुख भोगे मर जाता है।

They lie down alike in the dust. The worm covers them.

वे दोनों बराबर मिट्टी में मिल जाते हैं, और कीड़े उन्हें ढांक लेते हैं।

“Behold, I know your thoughts, the plans with which you would wrong me.

“देखो, मैं तुम्हारी कल्पनाएँ जानता हूँ, और उन युक्तियों को भी, जो तुम मेरे विषय में अन्याय से करते हो।

For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’

तुम कहते तो हो, ‘रईस का घर कहाँ रहा? दुष्टों के निवास के तम्बू कहाँ रहे?’

Haven’t you asked wayfaring men? Don’t you know their evidences,

परन्तु क्या तुम ने बटोहियों से कभी नहीं पूछा? क्या तुम उनके इस विषय के प्रमाणों से अनजान हो,

that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led out to the day of wrath?

कि विपत्ति के दिन के लिये दुर्जन सुरक्षित रखा जाता है; और महाप्रलय के समय के लिये ऐसे लोग बचाए जाते हैं?

Who will declare his way to his face? Who will repay him what he has done?

उसकी चाल उसके मुँह पर कौन कहेगा? और उसने जो किया है, उसका पलटा कौन देगा?

Yet he will be borne to the grave. Men will keep watch over the tomb.

तो भी वह कब्र को पहुँचाया जाता है, और लोग उस कब्र की रखवाली करते रहते हैं।

The clods of the valley will be sweet to him. All men will draw after him, as there were innumerable before him.

नाले के ढेले उसको सुखदायक लगते हैं; और जैसे पूर्वकाल के लोग अनगिनत जा चुके, वैसे ही सब मनुष्य उसके बाद भी चले जाएँगे।

So how can you comfort me with nonsense, because in your answers there remains only falsehood?”

तुम्हारे उत्तरों में तो झूठ ही पाया जाता है, इसलिए तुम क्यों मुझे व्यर्थ शान्ति देते हो?”
