Embracing the Mindset of Christ - Lessons in Humility and Power

In wedding season on the Zirakpur road you can always tell who the groom is: the biggest car, the loudest band, the white horse. Everyone wants to arrive big. Jesus, the King of kings, chose to arrive on a borrowed donkey. This message is about the mindset behind that choice, and why it is the most powerful thing you can carry into your week.

He Was 100% Man and 100% God

Jesus had all the power of heaven in His hands, and He chose the lowest seat in the room.

Philippians 2:5-8: “He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross!”

Jesus chose to enter Jerusalem on a donkey. He did not come with a big army. People were expecting Him to be a king, and He was, but not the kind they had in mind. Fully man, so He felt the dust and the hunger and the insult. Fully God, so He could have ended it all with a word. He did not.

What Is the Mindset of Christ?

The mindset of Christ is this: you have the power to crush someone, and you choose to serve them instead.

Sometimes we show our strength to weaker people. The boss to the office boy. The landlord to the tenant. The elder brother to the younger. We act in ways that do not reflect who we truly are. Jesus had the power to do anything, and He chose to be humble. When people opposed Him and spoke against Him, He stayed humble.

No matter how big your name or your position is, whether you are well known or hold authority, always choose to be humble. Cultivate a serving heart.

Many people do not understand the weight of Easter. The birth of Jesus is extraordinary, but His death and resurrection are even more so. Jesus existed in the very nature and power of God. He could do on earth what God does in heaven. For the first time, the lame walked and demons were thrown out. Yet He never used that power for personal gain. He showed love and power together, and never once exploited it for His own advantage.

Then, on the night before He died, the Master took a towel and washed the feet of His own followers. For the first time in history, leadership was redefined by humility.

Some people believe victory only comes through fighting. Jesus showed us that humility and obedience bring the real victory.

Obedience to God: The Path to Greatness

When you are obedient, you are powerful. When Jesus humbled Himself, God gave Him the name above every name (Philippians 2:9). His greatness did not come from displaying power. It came from obedience and humility.

Obedience and humility are not weakness. They are the mind of Christ.

Trusting God to Fight Your Battles

Do not fight your battles on your own. Let God fight for you. Someone in the office speaks against you, and your thumb is already typing the reply on the group. Stop. Your name will be lifted when you humble yourself. When you do not know what to say or do, trust God to lift you up.

When you lift yourself, there is a limit. When God lifts you, there are no limits.

Jesus’ Entry into Jerusalem

The King came riding on a donkey, and the same crowd that shouted “Hosanna” would soon shout “Crucify.”

Picture it. Jesus comes down the Mount of Olives on a young donkey. The crowd tears branches from the palm trees and throws their cloaks on the road. They shout, “Hosanna!” It is exactly what Zechariah 9:9 promised: “See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey.”

People expected a horse. A conquering king. An earthly kingdom that would free them from pain and oppression. Many wanted a political rescue and nothing more.

Jesus said in John 18:36”My kingdom is not of this world.” Earthly kings and kingdoms pass away. His kingdom is eternal. It is everywhere and it always reigns. Even if we die, we will live again in His eternal kingdom.

That road into Jerusalem pointed straight at the cross. The same voices shouting “Hosanna” on Sunday would cry out for His crucifixion on Friday.

Humility in Action: Lessons for Daily Life

Do not put your trust in human praise. Today people praise you; tomorrow the same people speak against you. The likes on your post are not your identity.

Jesus knew the weight of what He was about to carry. As Isaiah 53:5 says, “He was crushed for our iniquities.” Every drop of His blood was shed for our sin. He knew the crowd would turn, and He rode in anyway, because obedience mattered more than applause.

Let us be humble like Jesus.

• When someone below you in status makes a mistake, a helper, a junior, a delivery boy, respond the way you would want your boss to respond to you.
• Pick one battle you are fighting with your own mouth and hand it to God in prayer instead of sending the reply.
• Do one hidden act of service this week that nobody will thank you for.
