Transformed Life - Embracing Renewal and New Beginnings
Rev. Brian Anderson · 24 February 2025 · 5 min read
“Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:2 · World English Bible

In this message
You changed your phone this year. New model, new cover, same old habits on the screen. Many of us live like that: updated on the outside, untouched on the inside. Paul’s letter to Rome says God wants a deeper change than a new cover, and this message is about how that change happens.
Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Paul is urging believers not to be shaped by the world but to be transformed. If you love the world, the love of the Father is not in you (1 John 2:15). As God’s chosen children, we leave deceit behind and take hold of holiness. We are vessels for His purpose, not for gossip, jealousy, or dirty thoughts. God calls us to worship Him, not to be dragged around by the schemes of Satan, who pushes people toward destruction. When negative thoughts come, reject them and remember: you are God’s temple. Transformation begins in the mind. When your thoughts change, everything else follows.
The Meaning of Transformation
Transformation is a drastic change in appearance, attitude, and spirit, and it starts inside your head.
You must actively tell your mind to change, and then practise renewal every day. Company matters. Do not keep close fellowship with people who have no interest in growing. Surround yourself with godly people who make you want more of God. Water becomes ice or steam depending on where you put it; you also change according to your atmosphere. That is why the church is a rehabilitation centre for sinners. Here you find the presence of God and the freedom His Spirit brings.
True transformation is permanent. You cannot expect change while sitting in the same circumstances. Just as you update your phone, you must update your spiritual life. God desires growth and dislikes stagnation. People who refuse to change miss what God wants to do in them.
Think of Pharaoh. God spoke to him ten times through Moses. Ten times he hardened his heart. He lost his river, his crops, his cattle, his firstborn son, and finally his whole army in the sea. Stubbornness led to Pharaoh’s downfall. Resisting transformation can cost you your present and your future.
When Do You Need Transformation?
You need transformation when you are unsatisfied, off course, or not seeing the fruit you expected.
- If you are unsatisfied with who you are. Many people look for external changes, a new job, a new look, a new city. But spiritual dissatisfaction is a call for transformation. Only Jesus, the Prince of Peace, gives true fulfilment.
- If you are not where you should be. Recognise when your life is off course and take steps to realign with God’s purpose.
- If you are not seeing the results you expected. You have prayed for a year and your temper is the same. Re-examine your prayer, your Bible reading, your behaviour, your habits, and your mindset.
A bad report often humbles us and drives us to prayer. Satan wants you to believe change is impossible. But through Christ all things are possible. Stand firm against the enemy, surrender to God, and declare victory over sin.
Steps to Transformation
Surrender to God, reject Satan’s influence, and renew your mind; that is the order, and it does not change.
- Surrender to God. Repent and ask for His guidance.
- Reject Satan’s influence. Rebuke negative thoughts and temptations out loud.
- Renew your mind. Change begins inside before it shows outside.
Transformation starts with the mind. Nobody loses weight by accident; first you decide in your head, then the plate changes. The essence of life is in the seed, not in the peel. Outer appearance means little without inner renewal. Makeup, titles, and a good profile picture are meaningless without a transformed heart. The Holy Spirit changes your speech, your actions, and your character until they line up with God’s will.
Many people want to be someone they are not called to be. Focus on God’s purpose for your life instead of copying others. Wise people reflect on their own lives; fools spend their time on other people’s. Seek wise counsel and stay open to correction. Build a healthy relationship with yourself, knowing that God wants to use the best in you for His glory. Instead of staring at your flaws, work on your strengths and your calling.
Why Is It Difficult to Change?
Change is hard because something in you is fighting to keep things exactly as they are.
- Stubbornness. Some simply refuse to change and resist God’s guidance.
- Being trapped. Addictions, lies, and sinful habits build strongholds. Escape them through Christ.
- Comfort zone. A life of ease can hold transformation back.
- Fear. Many fear change, so they cling to toxic relationships, addictions, or habits.
- Pain. Growth is often painful, but it is necessary for bearing fruit.
- Lack of power. Without spiritual strength, every effort to change is weak.
Look at your own life honestly. Which of these six is holding you? Name it. Then take it to God, because transformation is a journey of surrender, renewal, and persistence, and you do not walk it alone.
This week
- Write down one thought pattern you keep returning to. Every time it comes, say out loud, “I am God’s temple” and replace it with a verse.
- Look at your five most active WhatsApp chats and ask honestly: is this company helping me grow? Add one godly friend to your week.
- Ask one mature believer to correct you in one area, and thank them when they do.
May the God who renews the mind make you new from the inside out this week. God bless you abundantly.

Not Moving Forward
God is a God of movement. If you are still standing in the outer court with a golden calf, it is time to break it and move.
The Danger of Not Moving Forward
Sometimes the biggest obstacle to your growth is you. God takes you through stages, and you cannot microwave maturity.
The Danger of Not Moving Forward
Just because you are alive does not mean you are growing; living is not moving, and stuck things eventually die.
