God is Able

The doctor has used a word you did not want to hear. The company has sent a mail about restructuring. The landlord wants the flat back by month end. In moments like these, faith stops being a Sunday word and becomes a Monday decision. This message is about three young men who stood in front of a furnace and said, “Our God is able” and about the God who still is.

Daniel 3:17: “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.”

When Our Faith is Tested

Faith that has never been tested is only an opinion; the furnace shows what you really believe.

Picture the plain of Dura. A golden image ninety feet high, the whole government assembled, the band ready. When the music plays, everyone bows. Except three Hebrew boys, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who stay standing while thousands of knees hit the ground. They knew the punishment. They had read the notice. And they said to the king’s face: our God is able to save us, and even if He does not, we will not bow.

That is faith. Not the certainty of rescue, but the certainty of God. When standing for what is right costs you, the promotion, the deal, the approval of your relatives, you draw strength from the same place they did. God is able.

Examples of God’s Faithfulness

The Bible is one long record of a God who shows up when the situation looks finished.

• Daniel in the lions’ den (Daniel 6). God shut the mouths of the lions, and Daniel walked out without a scratch.
• David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17). A shepherd boy with a sling brought down a giant because he trusted the living God.
• Paul and Silas in prison (Acts 16:25-26). They sang at midnight with their backs bleeding, and God shook the prison open.
• The resurrection of Jesus (Matthew 28). The final proof that God’s power is greater than death itself.

Every one of these people felt the fear you feel. The difference is where they looked. God is in control, no matter how impossible the situation seems.

Our Decisions Bring God’s Intervention

God’s intervention followed their decision; the fourth man appeared only after they refused to bow.

Faith requires action. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not get a miracle first and then decide. They decided, and then God moved. The same is true for you.

• You choose honesty at the office when the boss says, “Adjust the invoice.”
• You choose to trust God with the rent instead of lying awake at 3 a.m.
• You choose to keep praying for the sick person in your house rather than giving in to fear and doubt.

Your obedience is the doorway. God’s power walks through it.

God Never Leaves Us

The fire did not go out for the three men, but God walked into it with them.

Nebuchadnezzar looked into the furnace and counted four. “I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” We know who that was. Jesus did not watch from outside. He stepped in. That picture tells you everything about your own situation: divine help is not at a distance. It is beside you.

• Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
• Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”
• Matthew 28:20: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Declare Today: God is Able!

Whatever stands in front of you this week, say it out loud: my God is able.

Faith speaks. The three boys spoke before the fire, not after it.

• He is able to strengthen the sick. We pray for the sick because He is able, and we leave the outcome in His hands.
• He is able to mend the relationship that has been silent for years.
• He is able to help when you have nobody else to call.
• He is able to bring peace into the storm in your mind.

Stand with the men and women of faith who went before you, and trust His ability, not your own.

Conclusion

Faith in a God who is able gives you a new way of seeing the very same problem.

The furnace was the same size before and after. What changed was where the boys looked. The God who delivered His people in Babylon has not retired; He still does miracles today. Stand firm. Trust His promises. And say with confidence: my God is able.

• Write “God is able” on a sticky note, put it on the fridge or the scooter dashboard, and read it aloud every morning.
• Name the one place where you have been quietly bowing, a compromise at work or a fear at home, and stand up in it.
• Pray for one sick person by name every day this week, and tell them you are doing it.
