- This week
Remember your first months in Christ. You could not wait for Sunday. You read the Bible on the bus. You told the shopkeeper about Jesus. Now the alarm rings, you switch it off, and church has become one more item in a busy week. This message is a warning and a help: do not take your Christian life lightly.
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)
Life in the Tricity moves fast, and speed makes believers lose focus. Many start with high enthusiasm, and then daily pressure, temptation and personal struggle slowly eat it away. But faith is the foundation of how you think, how you act and how you decide. Take it lightly, and everything built on it becomes shaky.
Stay Strong in Your Christian Life
Spiritual strength is not an accident; it is built like a body is built, with daily discipline nobody else can do for you.
You cannot outsource your walk with God to the pastor or the prayer group. Here is the checklist.
1. Walk by the Spirit
Galatians 5:16 gives the promise: walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. The flesh is not defeated by trying harder; it is starved by walking closer. Submit to God’s purpose in each decision, the job offer, the relationship, the message you are about to send, and let the Holy Spirit lead.
2. Spend Time in God’s Word
The Bible is your spiritual food supply. Read regularly and think about what you read, and your faith grows strong enough to face what the week brings. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” A lamp for your feet does not show the whole road; it shows the next step, which is all you need today.
3. Maintain a Consistent Prayer Life
Prayer is your direct line to God. Through it you receive His strength and His direction, and your relationship with Him grows. Philippians 4:6 tells us not to be anxious about anything but to bring every concern to God in prayer, with thanksgiving. The mother praying at 5 a.m. before the house wakes up is not being religious; she is drawing strength for a day she cannot handle alone.
4. Fellowship with Other Believers
Hebrews 10:25 says not to give up meeting together. Fellowship with faithful believers keeps you accountable and lifts you up. The believer who stops coming does not fall in one day; he cools slowly, like chai left on the table.
Identify What Is Hindering Your Spiritual Life
You cannot remove an obstacle you refuse to name, so be honest about what is slowing you down.
Many things can hinder the Christian walk. Here are the common ones.
1. Worldly Distractions
Social media, entertainment and worldly desire pull your focus away from God. Count the hours on the phone this week and compare them with the hours in prayer. Set boundaries. Put your spiritual health above temporary pleasure.
2. Unresolved Sin
Sin builds a wall between you and God. It does not have to stay there. 1 John 1:9 says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us. Confess today, not “one day”.
3. Negative Influences
The people around you either strengthen or weaken your faith. 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns, “Bad company corrupts good character.” That college group, that office circle, that cousin who always mocks your faith: choose friendships that push you towards God.
4. Lack of Commitment
Half-hearted commitment leads to spiritual stagnation. Luke 9:62 says no one who puts a hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God. A farmer looking backwards ploughs a crooked line. Commit fully.
Staying Connected with the Lord
A close relationship with God takes effort and intention, like any relationship you want to keep alive.
Here is how we stay connected.
1. Abide in Christ
John 15:5 says, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” A branch does not strain to produce fruit; it stays connected and fruit comes. Stay in Him through prayer, worship and obedience, and He stays in you.
2. Serve Others
Serving reflects Christ’s love. Helping the person in need fulfils the command to love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:39). Carry the neighbour’s groceries up the stairs. Sit with the widow in your building. That is discipleship with sleeves rolled up.
3. Share the Gospel
Jesus told His followers to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). Sharing your faith strengthens it. Tell people simply, in your own words, what Jesus has done in your life, and leave the rest to God.
4. Trust in God’s Plan
Life is uncertain, and Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. Submit your plans to Him and He will make your paths straight. That is where peace comes from.
The Christian life is a sacred gift, and a gift is only valued when you know what it cost. Stay faithful, name the obstacles, keep your devotion complete, and your life will bring glory to God. Walk by the Spirit every day. Faith is not one compartment of your life; it is the foundation under all of it. Amen.
This week
- Choose one hour of phone time each day and give it to the Bible and prayer instead.
- Confess one sin you have been postponing, to God today and to a trusted believer before Sunday.
- Do one act of service for a neighbour this week without telling anyone.
May the Lord keep your feet on His path and your heart burning as it did at the beginning.

Not Moving Forward
God is a God of movement. If you are still standing in the outer court with a golden calf, it is time to break it and move.
The Danger of Not Moving Forward
Sometimes the biggest obstacle to your growth is you. God takes you through stages, and you cannot microwave maturity.
The Danger of Not Moving Forward
Just because you are alive does not mean you are growing; living is not moving, and stuck things eventually die.
