Proverbs 24

Don’t be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them;

बुरे लोगों के विषय में डाह न करना, और न उसकी संगति की चाह रखना;

for their hearts plot violence and their lips talk about mischief.

क्योंकि वे उपद्रव सोचते रहते हैं, और उनके मुँह से दुष्टता की बात निकलती है।

Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established;

घर बुद्धि से बनता है, और समझ के द्वारा स्थिर होता है।

by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

ज्ञान के द्वारा कोठरियाँ सब प्रकार की बहुमूल्य और मनोहर वस्तुओं से भर जाती हैं।

A wise man has great power. A knowledgeable man increases strength,

वीर पुरुष बलवान होता है, परन्तु ज्ञानी व्यक्ति बलवान पुरुष से बेहतर है।

for by wise guidance you wage your war, and victory is in many advisors.

इसलिए जब तू युद्ध करे, तब युक्ति के साथ करना, विजय बहुत से मंत्रियों के द्वारा प्राप्त होती है।

Wisdom is too high for a fool. He doesn’t open his mouth in the gate.

बुद्धि इतने ऊँचे पर है कि मूर्ख उसे पा नहीं सकता; वह सभा में अपना मुँह खोल नहीं सकता।

One who plots to do evil will be called a schemer.

जो सोच विचार के बुराई करता है, उसको लोग दुष्ट कहते हैं।

The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

मूर्खता का विचार भी पाप है, और ठट्ठा करनेवाले से मनुष्य घृणा करते हैं।

If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.

यदि तू विपत्ति के समय साहस छोड़ दे, तो तेरी शक्ति बहुत कम है।

Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!

जो मार डाले जाने के लिये घसीटे जाते हैं उनको छुड़ा; और जो घात किए जाने को हैं उन्हें रोक।

If you say, “Behold, we didn’t know this,” doesn’t he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn’t he know it? Shall he not give to every man according to his work?

यदि तू कहे, कि देख मैं इसको जानता न था, तो क्या मन का जाँचनेवाला इसे नहीं समझता? और क्या तेरे प्राणों का रक्षक इसे नहीं जानता? और क्या वह हर एक मनुष्य के काम का फल उसे न देगा?

My son, eat honey, for it is good, the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste;

हे मेरे पुत्र तू मधु खा, क्योंकि वह अच्छा है, और मधु का छत्ता भी, क्योंकि वह तेरे मुँह में मीठा लगेगा।

so you shall know wisdom to be to your soul. If you have found it, then there will be a reward: Your hope will not be cut off.

इसी रीति बुद्धि भी तुझे वैसी ही मीठी लगेगी; यदि तू उसे पा जाए तो अन्त में उसका फल भी मिलेगा, और तेरी आशा न टूटेगी।

Don’t lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Don’t destroy his resting place;

तू दुष्ट के समान धर्मी के निवास को नष्ट करने के लिये घात में न बैठ; और उसके विश्रामस्थान को मत उजाड़;

for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

क्योंकि धर्मी चाहे सात बार गिरे तो भी उठ खड़ा होता है; परन्तु दुष्ट लोग विपत्ति में गिरकर पड़े ही रहते हैं।

Don’t rejoice when your enemy falls. Don’t let your heart be glad when he is overthrown,

जब तेरा शत्रु गिर जाए तब तू आनन्दित न हो, और जब वह ठोकर खाए, तब तेरा मन मगन न हो।

lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

कहीं ऐसा न हो कि यहोवा यह देखकर अप्रसन्न हो और अपना क्रोध उस पर से हटा ले।

Don’t fret yourself because of evildoers, neither be envious of the wicked;

कुकर्मियों के कारण मत कुढ़, दुष्ट लोगों के कारण डाह न कर;

for there will be no reward to the evil man. The lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

क्योंकि बुरे मनुष्य को अन्त में कुछ फल न मिलेगा, दुष्टों का दीपक बुझा दिया जाएगा।

My son, fear the LORD and the king. Don’t join those who are rebellious,

हे मेरे पुत्र, यहोवा और राजा दोनों का भय मानना; और उनके विरुद्ध बलवा करनेवालों के साथ न मिलना;

for their calamity will rise suddenly. Who knows what destruction may come from them both?

क्योंकि उन पर विपत्ति अचानक आ पड़ेगी, और दोनों की ओर से आनेवाली विपत्ति को कौन जानता है?

These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judgment is not good.

बुद्धिमानों के वचन यह भी हैं। न्याय में पक्षपात करना, किसी भी रीति से अच्छा नहीं।

He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,” peoples will curse him, and nations will abhor him—

जो दुष्ट से कहता है कि तू निर्दोष है, उसको तो हर समाज के लोग श्राप देते और जाति-जाति के लोग धमकी देते हैं;

but it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them.

परन्तु जो लोग दुष्ट को डाँटते हैं उनका भला होता है, और उत्तम से उत्तम आशीर्वाद उन पर आता है।

An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

जो सीधा उत्तर देता है, वह होठों को चूमता है।

Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.

अपना बाहर का काम-काज ठीक करना, और अपने लिए खेत को भी तैयार कर लेना; उसके बाद अपना घर बनाना।

Don’t be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Don’t deceive with your lips.

व्यर्थ अपने पड़ोसी के विरुद्ध साक्षी न देना, और न उसको फुसलाना।

Don’t say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will repay the man according to his work.”

मत कह, “जैसा उसने मेरे साथ किया वैसा ही मैं भी उसके साथ करूँगा; और उसको उसके काम के अनुसार पलटा दूँगा।”

I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding.

मैं आलसी के खेत के पास से और निर्बुद्धि मनुष्य की दाख की बारी के पास होकर जाता था,

Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

तो क्या देखा, कि वहाँ सब कहीं कटीले पेड़ भर गए हैं; और वह बिच्छू पौधों से ढँक गई है, और उसके पत्थर का बाड़ा गिर गया है।

Then I saw, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction:

तब मैंने देखा और उस पर ध्यानपूर्वक विचार किया; हाँ मैंने देखकर शिक्षा प्राप्त की।

a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep,

छोटी सी नींद, एक और झपकी, थोड़ी देर हाथ पर हाथ रख के लेटे रहना,

so your poverty will come as a robber and your want as an armed man.

तब तेरा कंगालपन डाकू के समान, और तेरी घटी हथियार-बन्द के समान आ पड़ेगी।
